Hello! ConTeXt distribution is supposed to be complete document processing system (without the need for e.g. TeXLive) for those users using ConTeXt macro package. One of the task to produce high-quality output is having appropriate index (and/or glossary). However, makeindex is, afaik, not solution for International users using Unicode encoding and therefore new TeXLive-2008 (finally) includes Xindy. Now I'm interested how is support for Xindy in ConTeXt and it there is any plan to ship it within ConTeXt distribution? From the Xindy website: There is neither a xindy distribution for Windows nor for Mac OS X. We would like to have one, but nobody has done the port yet. That is a showstopper, I think. Best wishes, Taco
(At last, I do receive e-mails to this list :-) For one week I missed all the messages and have no idea why)

A rather weird statement, as xindy is now part of TeX Live! (It was troublesome enough to compile, by the way: it's written in Common Lisp, and the GNU interpreter for it is just a pain to get working on normal installations). The page is probably outdated. I'll write Joachim. Arthur
At for the original question, it certainly sounds like a good idea to me, but it needs investigation. Gour, can you make a small test file with usage instruction? Arthur

I just discovered that all my old xindy-styles (used many years ago) are gone :-( So, I need some time, considering some other obligations, to switch back into 'xindy-mode'. Will try to do that, hopefully, by the end of the next week, if something extraordinary does not happen. Hello Gour, This is not a question for this mailing list, but rather for Hans himself. On Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 5:47 PM, Gour wrote:

ConTeXt doesn't use makeindex, so I don't really understand your complaints about makeindex. What features exactly do you miss? (But please redirect the question to the ConTeXt list. It makes no sense to discuss distributing something before it can be used with ConTeXt.) Mojca
