[Context] ConTeXt Minimals: some statistics of usage
Hello, As I have promised some time ago here is some raw statistics from the last month (older statistics is not kept on server): There are 29917 different jobs. There are 379 different IP numbers. Bytes sent: 14,451,171,433 The following numbers represent unique IP numbers that have tried to download minimals for a specific platform: platform linux: 94 platform linux-64: 85 platform osx-64: 68 platform mswin: 65 platform osx-intel: 48 platform osx-ppc: 15 platform freebsd-amd64: 3 platform freebsd: 1 (missing: kfreebsd, linux-ppc, solaris) Mojca (I need to figure out how to use sqlite [and how to install the bindings] before we can start collecting more statistics over time :)
(I'm sorry, I sent the statistics to the "wrong" mailing list. I wanted to send it to the main list.) Mojca
Some newer statistics ... (since August 03) There are 72550 different jobs in log. There are 920 different IP numbers in log. I assume that you keep these statistics somewhere so that some day we can make a nice graphic of changes in platforms and such (esp 32/64 bit and so). At the moment there's only a log file on contextgarden.net (that gets deleted every now and then), so we need to push that into some database and keep its backups. (I have SQL statements ready, just no database yet ...) Mojca

Well, I can tell you that there will be a an "inverse" Heaviside step function on some particular architecture of some particular platform soon after 20th October ... (joke aside: we need to figure out what to do with it some time pretty soon ...) Mojca

Which one is it? osx-ppc?

Apple will probably release 10.7 (Lion) very soon. My coworkers already have the latest XCode 4 (beta) that (from what I remember) don't come with Tiger support any more. I didn't check whether they support PPC, but I highly doubt it. They have put a lot of effort into LLVM support. I have tried to compile LuaTeX using LLVM, but I didn't test the performance differences yet (and it's also pretty non-trivial to test). So ... new XCode is there, new OS is almost there ... but there are still four to eight times more users than those of all the non-mswin/linux/mac platforms combined ... Wiki statistics: - intel 10.6: 80.5% - intel 10.5: 13.8% - intel 10.4: 2.20 % - all ppc: 3.22 % Mojca I wonder ... when we started providing the minimals and building them on the latest version of OS (Tiger), there was no single Panther user complaining. But there are so many PPC and Tiger users now ...

my guess too
It must have something to do with the TeX lion?
Well, I wonder why ipad is not mentioned as platform as I saw luatex running on it at the conference. Hans, you need to adapt MKIV to run on iPad first :)
hard without a binary to test ..
