mptopdf says 'Unable to make mpx file' (using TEX.mp)

Here is 'minimal.mp': input TEX beginfig(1) draw thelabel.top(TEX("90"), origin); endfig; end It runs fine through mpost, but running 'mptopdf minimal.mp' instead produces: MPtoPDF 1.3.3 : running 'texexec --mptex minimal.mp' TeXExec | processing graphic 'minimal.mp' This is MetaPost, Version 0.993 (Web2C 7.5.6) (/usr/share/texmf/web2c/natural.tcx) (minimal.mp (/usr/share/texmf-texlive/metapost/base/TEX.mp) (mptextmp.mp >> mptextmp.mp >> mptextmp.mpx ! Unable to make mpx file. l.1 btex 90 etex Transcript written on minimal.log. TeXExec | runtime: 0.040707 MPtoPDF 1.3.3 : no filename matches minimal (After running mpost, the mptopdf command works fine, so delete all files except minimal.mp, then run 'mptopdf minimal.mp' to see the problem.) I'm using the Debian unstable texlive/context packages on i386 (using mkii). Do others see this problem? I don't think it's related to the mpost version or to the Debian packaging. I just tried a moderately recent 'minimals' and mpost 1.110, and the problem is the same. -Sanjoy

Hi all, Since yesterday evening localtime the ntg mail server switched to an external service for spam filtering. It is already clear that the mail server indeed handles much less spam now, so it looks like a great success. Still, it is a rigorous change, and for the new few days I want to ask everybody to keep an eye out for disappearing posts. This message is crossposted. Luatex beta 0.31.0

Hi all, I have just uploaded the archives for luatex 0.31.0. This is just an intermediate release so that some testing can be done on the updated fontforge embedding. * There are new fields being generated by fontforge.to_table(), and one or two old ones have been removed. These fields are / will be documented in the manual, but very briefly: - MATH table and associated information are now exported (the main reason for the new fontforge code) - Baseline data is now exported (perhaps usable in lua code) - Multiple Master / Glyph variation data is now exported (but useless, for now) - Mac Feature (AAT) information is now exported (perhaps usable in lua code) - If (lookup) names were saved via the PfED table, these will the exported instead of the default, generated names. (as requested by Yannis) * dfont is now treated as an archive format just like ttc when it comes to fontforge.info(). NOTE: that does not mean you can actually use them, because the backend doesn't know yet how to embed dfont fonts in the PDF, that is on the TODO list for the next big beta (0.40.0). * The executables are a lot larger than before. That is because much more of fontforge is included than before. The MetaPost team is happy to announce a new release of MetaPost: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MetaPost 1.102 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The sources and a win32 package can be downloaded immediately from http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/metapost/ This release will also be available from CTAN soon, and it will be included in the next TeXLive. The source package should compile normally on all systems that are capable of compiling a modern web2c-based TeX distribution. The win32 package is intended for texlive or a similar web2c-based installation, and has been tested only with TeXLive 2008. These executables will *not* work for miktex, sorry. Of course, we welcome any comments (either good or bad) that you may have. Hi, could we add some unique key to the commands? That way we could have a more reliable way to know which command is which. It is useful when you use cd:inherit and refer to a command, such as color (which can be an environment or a standalone command) or commands with variants. testing lmodern 1.106 and context on Debian

Dear friends, I am currently investing a bit of time to packages the (not anymore so) new lmodern 1.106 fonts for Debian (experimental). Since up to now we are shipping lmodern 1.010x I patched context so that it uses the old font names. So now there are new context and lmodern packages for testing.
