For instance, if one has a frame to the right of column 1, then the next table seems to acquire this setting as well, even if it isn't expected to have any frames at all. Note that each unique table is defined inside a macro. How can I make these table settings only apply to the a specific table? --Joel

Today I ran across three references to archive.contextgarden.net, one in a tugboat article and two others in context garden wiki pages. I was not able to reach that site. Is it (long since?) dead or is it just on vacation temporarily? Thanks. Jim

I've able to achieve the results I wanted by trial/errrr using the code shown below. \framed{\externalfigure} vs \externalfigure[frame=on]

The wiki page for \setupexternalfigure says "Show frame around image. Most(?) options of \setupframed are usable!" I tried to put a frame around a picture (using \externalfigure with frame=on) but I didn't get the frame to play nicely (see example below). I can get the frame where I want it if instead I do \framed[frame=on,...]{\externalfigure...} but this leaves me wondering whether (1) I am misinterpreting the wiki pages, (2) The wiki pages are misleading/wrong, or (3) There is a bug in some code. If anyone would care to enlighten me, I would appreciate it. In particular, the offset=... option of \externalfigure does not seem to be consistent with the offset=... option of \framed. Here is the example... one and all should be able to directly run it, but the text above and below each picture may make the issues clear without having to run the code. (The result I was looking for is the second figure in this example.) Thanks. Footnotes in footnotes

Hi folks, in https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Footnotes there is Oblomov's example for footnotes in footnotes: This\footnote{Or that\footnote{Or possibly even the other.}, if you prefer.} is a sentence with a footnote. I get only the footnote number of the inner footnote in the first footnote, not the whole second/inner footnote. What's going wrong? Greetings Thomas

Suggestions and problems of the manuals

Hi, I discovered the manuals in the context distribution. My general way to built the manuals were these steps: ``` # execute one time git clone https://github.com/contextgarden/context.git cd context/doc/context/sources/general/manuals/ # for every manual cd $MANUALFOLDER context $MAIN_MANUAL_FILE.tex ``` Is there a way to speed this up, so to build all manuals with one command (some make file or shell script for example)? I saw some problems within the manuals: - In units/units-mkiv.tex the spacing seems not to work with current LMTX. See the attached screenshot (units-mkiv.png) for my rendering. In my understanding the spaces should differ. - I changed some typos(?) and other stuff in that file. The patch is attached (0001-units-mkiv-improve.patch). - math/math-mkiv.tex seems not to compile. This is normally done by loading special math fonts into the math family slots. Your font set is lacking at least the parameter mentioned earlier. mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1 - I tried to find a prebuild version and found https://mirror.contextgarden.net/general/manuals/math-mkiv.pdf. However, this document seems to be from 2021 and has a kind of wobbly rendering in Okular/Poppler (I remember the same phenomena with early LMTX). See the screenshot attached (math-mkiv-online.png). \starttable questions

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here could help me with these three things: For a long time I have been using Wichura's TaBle macros (i.e., what one gets with \input table in plain TeX) and would like to use what appears to be ConTeXt's version of those (i.e., what one gets with \starttable ... \stoptable). However, https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/starttable says The environment \starttable ... \stoptable is and (sic) old and nearly obsolete way to handle tabular material Q1: are there plans to remove \starttable ... \endtable from ConTeXt any time "soon", or is that wiki comment gratuitously pessimistic? In a recent answer on this list, Mikael helped someone by pointing out the \HF[...] command. The \HF command is not listed in the \starttable wiki page. Q2: Is \HF[] documented anywhere? If so, can someone point me to that/those document(s)? Perhaps an answer to Q2 will answer this one too, but in case it doesn't... When using Wichura's \BeginTable ... \EndTable macros, I occasionally use the \\+nm feature to add n points above the current line and/or m points below the current line. Q3: Does ConTexT's \starttable ... \endtable have this feature? If so, how does one access this feature? Thanks. Jim

Caching Metafun images and VIM Syntax highlighted code

I am writing two books. One is on Rust programming and another is on geometry, so I have syntax highlighted code and in second has lost of diagrams. Perhaps Aditya Mahajan can tell me how can I cache code snippets. Invoking VIM will have heavy penalty on highlighting the code otherwise. Other than that, how can I cache Metafun images so that they are not recomputed on every processing of file. -- Respect, Shiv Shankar Dayal
