Hi,
I setup a layer to the size of the typearea and expect the corner presets
to place my figures into the corners, but \makeupwidth/height are smaller
than the typearea (same with \textwidth). Why?

Place the layer in the text area or use \paperwidth and \paperheight for
width and height.
