Any thoughts why the following doesn't work? 

\currentdate[d:persiannumerals]

It just outputs the normal digits.

In contrast, these work:

\currentdate[d:abjadnumerals]
\convertnumber{persiannumerals}{\normalday}

I didn’t even know that there were such short invocations for number
conversions in \currentdate.
