Please advise on how to solve. The latest attempt to get ConTeXt up and running was by installing Tex Live network installation. Over the last month, https://lmtx.pragma-ade.com/install-lmtx/context-freebsd-amd64.zip has been downloaded and installed several times. Each effort ended with being unable to solve this problem. in all cases the file being processed is doc01.tex from https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Introduction/Installation#Check_the_installat... Using the current Tex Live installation, the command context --version yields mtx-context | ConTeXt Process Management 1.06 mtx-context | mtx-context | main context file: /zPoolData02/scratch3/TexLive/2025/texmf-dist/tex/context/base/mkiv/context.mkiv mtx-context | current version: 2025.10.27 22:10 mtx-context | main context file: /zPoolData02/scratch3/TexLive/2025/texmf-dist/tex/context/base/mkxl/context.mkxl mtx-context | current version: 2025.10.27 22:1 The operating system is FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE-p3 Thankyou

The LMTX download has nothing to do with TeX Live. You can install both in parallel (as I have), but be careful about your PATH, you can’t mix the installations!

TeX Live usually installs in /usr/local/texlive (I don’t know about FreeBSD though), did you change that intentionally? If you installed the LMTX distribution as in https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Introduction/Installation, you should close your terminal after installation, because the script bends the PATH. You don’t want the mtxrun of the installation in your PATH. Hraban
The practice of installing to a custom directory was started ages ago when using Tex Live. I recall it being recommended when I first used ConTeXt. A couple of years ago the practice allowed ConText and programming for generating monthly reports for a small gas company. The appropriate directory is placed at the beginning of PATH.
Not remembering exactly what was done and in what order, a fresh download and installation has been done from
https://lmtx.pragma-ade.com/install-lmtx/context-freebsd-amd64.zip
context --version

After the installation, logged out and then back in.
The result is the same and ends with

It looks like the FreeBSD binaries haven't been updated since May: https://build.contextgarden.net/dl/luametatex/work/?C=M;O=D That means that for now, if you want to install ConTeXt, you'll have to build it from source. You should just need to "cd" to the source directory ("texmf-context/source/luametatex/"), run "build.sh", and then copy "build/native/luametatex" to "texmf-amd64-freebsd/bin/".
The latest attempt to get ConTeXt up and running was by installing Tex Live network installation.
I've deleted the FreeBSD LuaMetaTeX binaries from TeX Live, so hopefully installing will fail with a clearer error message. Mojca/Hans: please let me know if/when the FreeBSD builder is working again and I'll add it back to TL. Thanks, -- Max

I think one issue is that the build client doesn't start so that has to be done manually which is complicated by the added layer of (special keyboard layout) security which makes that I can't log in. So .. up to Mojca. Till then, users compiling themselves, sound fine to me. The few freebsd users ready do that anyway I think. That's anyway a reason why we distribute the sources with context.
