Keep in mind that Adobe Acrobat Pro isn't available on platforms used by the majority of TeX users.
Surely the majority of TeX users are Windows users, are they not ? And AAC is available for Microsoft Windows.
And most TeX users (not only at schools and universities) cannot afford proprietary software or are not willing to pay for it.
Even as a formerly poorly paid member of the academic community, now in even more penurious retirement for 11 years, I can afford the measly £14 per month to licence the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite ! The academic pricing offered for Adobe CC makes this a most worthwhile investment, since not omly do I get full Adobe Acrobat DC, I get Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and many many more. An absolute bargain. ** Phil.
