This is exactly what's needed. I tried this (compare sample2e with sample2e & lm): - render the pdfs with gs to png the resulting pngs are not large (ca. 150k/page for sample2e) and can be tested with cmp/md5sum for identity - generate diff images with "composite -compose difference -negate" this eats memory (1G at 600dpi), but produces what's needed.
