Hi, since Hans often refers to bad and changing “standards” (e.g. PDF, MathML, ePub…) and Taco told us about the mess of RTF: You’re not alone. There’s the ONIX[1] XML standard for publication data, prominently used by the monopolist VLB (Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher, German catalogue of books in print). A friend and I had the idea of an open book catalogue (for all publishers and bookshops that want to participate), and they’re setting up a proof of concept. Just got a message: * The examples from the ONIX homepage have errors if you check against their “strict” schemas. * The catalogue of our publishing house, exported as ONIX from VLB, has errors when checked against the “not strict” schema, i.e. VLB generates faulty data. How should I be compiling my for-printers file?

I’m nearing the final stages of preparing a file for printing, which will be used to produce a textbook at a professional printer. The printer can accept PDF files, and I’ve been generating them using the context filename.tex command as part of my regular workflow. I’m wondering if this approach is producing the highest quality output for printing purposes. Is there anything additional I should consider, such as installing LuaTeX or running specific commands, or command-line switches, to ensure the best possible print quality? For context, when I installed ConTeXt standalone, it didn't seem to include LuaTeX by default, though after I installed, it asked me to run context --luatex commands which didn't function, so I worry my install isn't giving the best-possible output. --Joel

How do I get roman numerals in all numerable sections with no extra spacing after the period (would appreciate condensed code/simplification) (I read documentation but did not get any result)

Variable counting citations

Hi there, I want to show the bibliography at the end, only when there are actually citations in this document. My attempt was to create a custom defined command to combine a citation with incrementing a counter. Is this the right way, or is there any native variable that holds the number of citations? Probably a very simple question, but how do I get a page number to be centered, at the bottom and vertically in the middle whilst having my doc margins?

I have the following code that I tried editing with no success https://pastebin.com/jT58Z8uY This has no footer or header but when I add code for a header that is AI generated it outputs a wrong result l, and I tried reading documentation too but didn't really find anything helpful What I want; everything that is included in the preamble that affects the sizing and alignment, but I want a bottom centered page number that is vertically aligned (it doesn't have to be perfect but I think context can oroabbly do that? I'm a complete novice, sorry). Would greatly appreciate if someone can format this into the doc. Thank you!

slanted fallback and compact fonts

MkIV slants both the fallback and the main font families. I guess this might be some code preventing this from working. I’m using current latest (from 2024.08.16 16:30). Could anyone confirm the issue? Many thanks for your help, Pablo

Why are some external PDF figures leading to a stack overflow error?

I am making a book that includes a series of maps which I created in LibreOffice Draw, but exported as a lossless PDF. After recently making some improvements to the map files, but not the ConTeXt documents, I was surprised my document wouldn't compile anymore...I couldn't find any code errors and even reverted to older code from the day before that compiled fine yesterday. It seemed the PDFs themselves were making the errors, but the errors were inconsistent.. I deleted my ConTeXt install and downloaded the latest version of standalone, it still won't compile, but the errors are completely different. Two column layout with footnotes

Hello list, Is it possible to create a two-column journal layout with ConTeXt in which relatively large footnotes are always in the right column and, if the size of the footnotes exceeds a certain threshold, are distributed between the left and right columns? (comparable as shown in the attachment) As far as I understand it, there are different possibilities for column set (e.g. column set, pagecolumns), but which one would be best, if it is possible at all? Bug Regarding IIalic Correction in ConTeXt LMTX

Hello, I started using ConTeXt LMTX 2 days ago and after some initial testing I noticed an unexpected behavior regarding italic correction. In short, I cannot seem to produce italic correction like I could in plain TeX or even LaTeX. I've asked the question on TeX StackExchange and another user confirmed the suspicion in his answer. I would suggest you take a look at it because the formatting of the question and the answer is prettier than in this plain text email. Furthermore, a person who provided the answer already did some research. See the question here: https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/724568/how-to-invoke-italic-correct… Here is what I observed: Compare the kerning produced in between 'r' and 'p' in the word "airport" when italic correction is applied in plain TeX (compiled with `pdftex`) and in ConTeXt LMTX (compiled with `luametatex`). Here are the minimal working examples. how to set OSFONTDIR to find font under the path com_apple_MobileAsset_Font7 in macOS ?

hi,lists In macOS, some fonts (e.g klee, stkaiti ,lihei) will be downloaded under the path --> /System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_Font7/, and I set the system font environment like: --> export OSFONTDIR=/Library/Fonts/:/System/Library/Fonts:$HOME/Library/Fonts:/System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_Font7. But why can't I retrieve the font in this path? I've rebuilt the index after setting up the environment. Thanks for the help. Muyik
